Give yourself some time

Hiya dreamers!

Today’s post is about yet another fundamental part of what physical wellness refers to. I am talking about our eating habits.

This is an important subject to take on, because as the saying goes “we are what we eat”, and it is true since food becomes part of our organism the moment we decide to put it in our mouth and chew.

In this regard, I understand that there are quite a few things that can make our eating habits go bad. Such are both endings, overeating, or not eating at all. These problems sometimes are caused by the amount of stress we have on a daily basis or the little to non-existent time,— or so we think, when it comes to eating at least the 3 most important meals, a.k.a. breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Sometimes we are buried so deep into our work or tasks that we do not give ourselves some time to recover from all those hours of hard work, and so it starts to become a bad habit to not eat throughout the day. Then, when we get home, we get the severe hunger for our own mistake, that we end up overeating at night, the worst time possible to consume such an amount of food.

For example, my father, who is a hardworking man, he barely eats his breakfast in the morning, he does not give himself some time to eat, and finally, when the night comes, he is starving to death and eats everything that is in the fridge. For this, pay close attention to the fact that I wrote ‘give’ and not ‘have’, and this is because everyone has time to eat, the thing is to organize and separate even 30 minutes to get some food in the system to keep going without crashing.

I have, as a matter of fact, forgotten to eat when I am utterly busy, but when I was at my worst in this kind of situation, I got sick and couldn’t work nor enjoy my food the proper way. So I started to think about myself first, and not work, which will always be waiting for my return…

At that moment, I realized how wrong of me was to forget about my body and its physical health, so I started to do something about it, and on the way, I helped my father a little too by giving him the tips that were working for me. So, I also want to let you dreamers know what I have done to fix this problem of bad eating habits to ameliorate my overall physical wellness:

  1. Always carry healthy snacks with you. Seeds, nuts, dried fruit, vegetable chips, etc.

  2. Set alarms to eat the 3 most important meals, and give yourself some time to process and relax. I always get up early to enjoy breakfast, then I set my alarms for my lunch and dinner as well.

  3. Whenever you feel the need to stop working, do it. At least if it’s for 15 minutes it’s perfect, and while doing so, why not enjoy a healthy snack?

  4. If you’ve got the time, divide your meals into 5. This way you will always be eating small portions throughout the day, but will not be hungry when you reach dinner time.

  5. Stay hydrated. This is important to maintain the balance of body fluids, and as a result, you get a good digestion process, circulation, transportation of nutrients, and so on.

  6. Lookup for quick and healthy meals. Because maybe you are busy, but there are still some ways to make every meal a nutritious one.

  7. If possible, work out at least 15 minutes every day. It might be hard for some, —me, but this will contribute to our healthy lifestyle by having more energy, losing some weight, being happy, etc.

I hope you try out some of these tips to become a healthier and happy person and improve your overall physical wellness. These have worked for my father and me so well, that I really wanted your dreamers to know them.

And remember, in Dream on Youth we love you and support you. Until next time:)
