YoungArts + DoSomething.org
About five minutes ago I saw that Max Schneider; actor, musician, and one of the coolest dudes around; posted a new video on YouTube. It was about something called YoungArts and one of my favorite organizations, Do Something. So of course, I had to go watch it! It turns out Max actually graduated from the program in 2010 with the discipline of theater! Let me tell you right now, I already have people in the do you family that I want to apply for this. Actually, if you meet the requirements and any of the ten artistic disciplines that they mention are your passion, I want you to apply too.
"YoungArts provides emerging artists (ages 15-18 or grades 10-12) with life-changing experiences through renowned mentors, access to significant scholarships, national recognition, and other opportunities during their careers to help ensure that the nation’s most outstanding young artists are encouraged to pursue careers in the arts."
Now if that doesn't spike an interest, I bet you I know something that will. Every year up to 700 applicants across the country are selected as national winners from 10,000. Yes, you read that right. 700 applicants are selected as national winners."Winners have the opportunity to attend YoungArts programs and partake in masterclasses with internationally renowned artists, workshops, interdisciplinary activities, performances, and exhibitions." They also have YoungArts Week which is in January and 170 finalists are selected for that! Don't be discouraged if you don't make it to the 170, when you are selected as one of the 700 YoungArts winners you guys become YA alums! Now if that isn't the coolest thing I've read all day I don't know what is!
The deadline to apply is October 18th. You must submit an online application, the fee is only $35, and an audition portfolio. Watch Max's video, check out the website, and good luck!
