Pathetic Single Girl's Party!
And I mean that in the best way possible. It's February, and if you couldn't guess, this post is to encourage anyone reading this to embrace their single-dom this Valentine's day. There's no need to make the holiday a downer just because you're not in a relationship. It's not just about romantic relationships, ya know.
Let's be real for a second: Valentine's day is about one thing and one thing only. Free Candy. No, I'm just kidding, although candy is an important aspect of the holiday.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people make a point of hating on this adorable holiday. Why? Why would you do that? Why not embrace the mushy gushy? Use it as an excuse to go out with friends! Seriously, grab a bunch of your single gal or guy pals and make a night out of it. Yes, you'll probably be surrounded by couples young and old alike, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun too! You can catch one or both of the two romantic movies coming out on the day itself: Endless Love and Winters Tale, and then grab dinner and argue over who pays the bill. Short on cash? Order take out and binge-watch as many romantic comedies as possible.
It's the perfect reason to treat yourself! Or treat the people you care about. Buy your mom lunch, surprise her at work, make homemade cards, tell people how much they mean to you, hand-deliver them, bake cute, festive cupcakes, and hand them out to strangers! There's no need to be a sourpuss about Valentine's day because love is not just about boyfriends and girlfriends. It's about the people you surround yourself with; it's about accepting yourself just as you are because there's no one like you. It's about expressing how you feel and not caring what anyone else thinks because it makes YOU happy.
No plans for the day that's only a week away? That's fine too! Spend the day putting a smile on your face! Buy yourself that Starbucks drink you've been dying to try, watch sappy, romantic movies because you can make a list of the things you love about yourself. Use the day as an excuse to dress yourself up even if you're spending the night snuggled up in bed with hot chocolate, stuffing your face with as many sugary snacks as possible. Don't spend your time moping about the fact that you don't have a significant other buying you flowers or an obnoxiously over-sized teddy bear. Valentine's day doesn't have to be the holiday you dread every year. It's a day you should go out and remind people you appreciate them. Use Valentine's day as a day to celebrate your happiness and thankfulness for the people in your life.
If you're like me and probably staying in like every other night, why not have some festive snacks and drinks?
Never forget the essence of your spark!
