A Peace of Mind

Recently, my life has been all about stress: Work, University, Family, Covid. Many reasons to be anxious about and little to no time for me to catch up with all of these activities, and I bet you guys are the same because the world we live in today moves pretty quickly.

So, in that matter, I want to dedicate this post to make you feel understood and perhaps even help you out a bit with some tips on how I manage my life and how I’ve been coping with stress daily.

First things first, let’s make one thing clear, we are a variety of people with various problems —and solutions for that matter, so what I propose are the methods that work best for me, but they might not work for you. Though I tell you this warmly and positively, and if somehow it does help you, I’ll be happy to have helped you <3

Now, as an example, I’ll tell you a few things I do throughout the day.

Every morning I usually get up at 10 o’clock —pretty late, I know and have a full breakfast with my family. Then, I do some homework for a while, or after my eyes start burning from staring so much at the computer. My work follows a little bit of writing here and there on my project, a book I want to publish hopefully by the end of this year. Finally, I attend, virtually, my university classes. That’s it; my whole day is gone.

Everything is a routine, which I used to love until my boredom and anxiety consumed me, and I decided to change. However, in the process, I got stressed because I had to make decisions, do much more for not being organized, and finally suffered burnout. At first, I thought this didn’t suit my life, but I found ways to manage my stress and avoid burnout.

I started new habits. However, it cost me a lot but gave much in return as well. One day, after giving it a whirl, I understood why all of these things were making me tired and bored. I discovered a few aspects of my lifestyle that needed a positive change:

  • I was going to sleep after 11 pm. It can make you wake up tired and be without energy during the day.

  • I was eating a lot of sweet bread. Sugar dependency can be a pain in the a** and can cause you illnesses that you’d want to avoid.

  • Lack of workout. Besides having a nice body. Without exercise, your body isn’t strong enough to perform specific tasks or last in a stressful environment.

  • Lack of organization. Well, burnout is only one consequence, but this can make you go mad and be angry or frustrated all the time because you have no time for anything. (Apparently).

  • I was watching a lot of movies/series. Not the worst of the habits because it makes you forget about reality (and I am not talking about it temporarily). Maybe it can even make you a careless person for what mattered to you, or at least it happened to me.

As you can see, many activities that we usually do are causing us damage, whether physically or emotionally. So, perhaps with a few tips, you can get back on track and be on the road with me because I am still adapting to all of those. They say that to make a habit you have to do the activity for at least seven days, so I highly encourage you to do these for this period:

  • When you wake up, write on a piece of paper your intention for the day, it will make you remember why you are grateful for, or it will set your mind to achieve your goals, —or both :)

  • Try and eat a full breakfast, perhaps accompanied by the people you love the most, or if you live solo, then yourself is the person you love the most! A full tummy in the morning will keep you from craving or lacking the energy to do your activities.

  • Organize! Write in your notebook or calendar five things you have to do. It can be two important things (color red), two things you like (color green), and one thing you have been avoiding (color blue). The latter goes to my fellow procrastinators.

  • Practice mindfulness. It works wonders. For me, this is a spiritual activity because I connect with myself and my surroundings. It’s essential to be aware of what we feel and how we manage emotions because bottling up things you’d want to avoid at all costs is never good for your body and mind.

I hope that these tips will help you out somehow to have a more peaceful and stress-free day because, in DOY, we care for you! Until the next post, guys <3
