Be Part of Something Meaningful
Mental health awareness is a very special topic to talk about; even if you don’t struggle with this, many people will appreciate it if you want to be part of something so important like this. For someone who has battled with mental health problems, and for some people to not be comprehensive over this, it’s an issue that puts me in conflict every time because it makes it look like it’s not important or that my problem— or someone else’s, is nothing and that I’m just overreacting to what is happening inside my head.
So, for this to be avoided, many individuals have joined this beautiful cause to support friends, family, and even strangers suffering from this kind of condition. Honestly, this is one of the most selfless acts since they are not suffering it but still want to help somehow to make it better for the part of the population that does suffer from this. Everyone needs to start changing minds about mental health. As I stated in the latter post, this will not enable people to do daily activities, like working or studying. But, ‘how can I help to spread awareness?’, you may think. Well, there are a few things that I can tell you about for your help to be effective! Taking some actions that help bring awareness to people all over the world, Mind (2021), an English charity organization, and an American Community Reach Center (2017) have come up with great and interesting things that actually align with what we do in Dream on Youth, like:
Speak out about why you’re fighting. This is one of the best ways for people to hear and comprehend because it comes from our experience to let everyone know that they are not alone in this and know that it can happen to anyone, no matter social status, race, or race religion, etc. Mental health is a serious problem that should never be considered simple or non-important.
Donate. Whatever you might think will help community centers or organizations help people with mental health problems, it’s welcomed. You can donate your time (volunteering), money (economic resources), or things (food, toiletries, etc.).
Encourage kind language. Whenever we hear about someone struggling with this kind of problem, they will appreciate some kind words because everyone needs and deserves to be treated nicely and feel loved and wanted. This is important!
Share in social media. Spreading the word through social media can reach even the farthest places on Earth, and people who might have felt alone, will not feel like that anymore. A video, an image, a poem, a painting or drawing, a song, all of those can be very efficient to transmit emotions!
Do you see? A lot can be done to bring awareness of mental health because it’s important to feel good, body, mind, and soul, And as always, in Dream on Youth, we love you and support you. Until the next post <3
