"It's really that simple" - Betsy Lane

Upcoming country superstar, Betsy Lane, is your typical 19-year-old girl next door.  This Nashville, TN native has seen her music career explode in the past year or two. With an EP that spent time in the iTunes top charts and a new single that's received radio airplay, it'd be crazy to say that this girl isn't going places.
Betsy's interest in music began at the young age of six when she learned to play the violin.  By the age of seven, she had performed in a musical.  "Ever since then I've loved music and I've thrived off of music," Betsy said.  Her father, an artist as well, has been one of her biggest influences.  "My dad used to sing around the house all the time," she said, "he would write songs about putting us to bed, eating dinner, and stuff like that so I grew up around [music]".  Her father's first royalty check from BMI is hanging on the wall in the family music room, and she dreams about having her first royalty check hanging beside it one day.  She credits Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, Luke Laird, and Hillary Lindsey, among others, as inspirations as well.
A week or two ago, Betsy's single "Nashville Nights" was played on the radio for the first time.  When asked about that experience, Betsy said, "It was honestly indescribable.  When my dad called me to tell me [my song] was gonna be played on the radio, I started crying because I was so happy.  Then when it happened, I was in disbelief.  It still doesn't feel real!".  Even with all of the recent success, Betsy reports that she still hasn't had the thought that her music career is definitely going to work out.  "Wanting to be a songwriter and an artist is a really scary, unsure, thing to want," Betsy said, "It's not really guaranteed for anyone".
With a major in songwriting and a minor in creative writing, Betsy says she has faced her fair share of criticism.  "People aren't gonna support you all the time," Betsy warned.   She said that though her degree won't guarantee her a job, she just wants to be happy.  She also added that no matter what your passion is, there's always room for improvement.  "You have to practice every day to get better to improve and master your skills," the songstress advised.  "Everyone has room for improvement".
My favorite song by Betsy has to be her new original, "Drunk Because of You".  With hauntingly accurate lyrics, it's impossible to not be moved by the truth and vulnerability Betsy demonstrates.  These attributes are universal throughout all of this talented girl's music.  Check out "Drunk Because of You" below:

Betsy said that as long as she's making enough to keep herself alive, she'll be happy.  "I just want to do what makes me happy.  It's really that simple."
