Love Songs

I thought this would be an easy post. Top 10 love songs? Psh. I only listen to break-up songs...there can't be that many to choose from. I was so wrong! In honor of the oh-so-quickly approaching holiday, I present you my 10 favorite love songs of all time, in no particular order. It was hard enough to narrow them down - do you really expect me to number the value of love? I think not.

Let's start with an old one that is possibly the first love song I ever heard. One of my first memories is sitting in the back seat of my dad’s car and him blaring The Temptations and telling me that this song was for me. Honestly, how can you not love "My Girl"? This one will always top my list - even if it isn't numbered - because, hello, my dad said this song is for me.

Now for a song that turned me into a hopeless romantic way too soon in life, "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain. Ever since Hilary Duff danced with Chad Michael Murray in a gazebo with music that came from nowhere in a ball gown, I've been hooked. I remember fantasizing about my first dance when I was in 6th grade and I always hoped it would be to this song. It wasn't (sad) but I have since danced to this song with someone who I cared greatly for, and that's what it's all about, right?

Up next is a song that is possibly the cheesiest one on my list but don't lie to yourself. There is no one, and I mean no one that can say they don't swoon when Joe Jonas sings "Gotta Find You". Who doesn't want a hot Jonas Brother singing about you and then falling madly in love with you? If you think you don't, just watch and re-evaluate your life. Case closed.

Valentines Day isn't just about loving your boyfriend or significant other...it's about loving yourself. I can't think of a better song to reinforce that than "Believe In Me" by Demi Lovato. This song has reassured me that I am worth it more times than I can count. The best part is the closing line, "Now I believe in me". So go listen, and as the song closes, take a deep breath and take on the world.

I'm probably the only person that remembers this song, but every time I think of love songs it pops into my mind. "I Could Get Used To This" by Everlife was possibly one of the first songs I ever listened to when I had a crush way back in 3rd and 4th grade (so scandalous). It's pretty much a classic and I still find myself listening to it from time to time.

Confession time: I listen to this song every time I have the slightest inclination that a guy I like may like me back. It's one of the top played songs on my iTunes, and it hasn't even been out that long. "Everything Has Changed" is pretty much the most swoon-worthy song. Even if you don't like Taylor, you have to admit that her voice blends beautifully with Ed's. It's pure perfection.
Here's another classic that every girl wants a guy to sing to her one day: "She Will Be Loved" by none other than Maroon 5. I don't think I know anyone who would say they'd hate for a guy to sit down with a guitar and sing this to them. It's impossible to hate. Such a classic song that shows such love.
What kind of person would I be if I didn't include Jesse McCartney? He was my first love and, oh goodness, I still love that boy. I know what song you're expecting...Beautiful Soul! But, you're wrong. I thought I'd throw a curveball your way. The Jesse McCartney song I picked is still an old one (I very well could've gone with How Do You Sleep, but we need some throwbacks)..."Because You Live" The thought of putting twice as many stars in the sky for someone just because I exist me melt into a puddle.

This next song is from a group that taught me what it's like to love music - the Dixie Chicks! When I was younger, I'd make my parents play "Cowboy Take Me Away" over and over in the car, and I'm still not tired of it. Everyone here has daydreamed of a cowboy riding up on a horse and taking them away. Don't deny it.

Rounding up this (extremely lengthy) post is a song that many of you likely haven't heard. I struggled between two songs from Parachute but ended up settling on "Forever and Always" over "She Is Love" because it makes me cry every time. It isn't exactly a happy love song, but it shows true love more than anything I've ever heard. Take a listen for yourself.

I hope you all have a Valentine's Day full of more happiness and love than you've ever experienced. You deserve it.

Fearlessly,
Sarah
