Valentine’s Day is this Friday and the various ways of celebrating the lovey-dovey holiday have come down to basically 3 different choices.
1. The Typical. Spending the day with your significant other having quality boyfriend & girlfriend time.
2. The New. Changing the holiday to “Gal-intines” Day, the new trendy name in showcasing a night spent with your best girl friends celebrating your girl power.
3. The Classic. Staying at home cuddled with your favorite stuffed animal and a box of chocolates, enjoying the chick-flick trifecta of all the best Nicholas Sparks movies.

No matter what your Valentine’s Day has in store, I decided to show love and affection towards my passions, dreams, and goals this year instead of sulking about being single. To me, Valentine’s Day doesn’t necessarily have to be about expressing love towards another person. It can be a day that you appreciate what you love to do as well, not only who you love. Dancing has always been a passion of mine, striving from when I was a little girl and first laced up my ballet slippers and took my first dance class as a toddler. Whether I have a boyfriend or not, I know that I will always be taken by the dance floor and the unreal energy and joy I get out of dancing will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Below I have picked 2 of my favorite dance videos from YouTube, nearing towards the theme of Valentine’s Day that express the emotion of love from one step to the other. I hope you take the time out to enjoy these lovely displays of choreography and the take the time out to give yourself a V-day present by romanticizing whatever you’re passionate about and the things that make you happy.

The first video is a mix of both contemporary dancing from the guy’s perspective and ballet with lyrical influences from the girl’s perspective. Jerzey of TheOnlyJerzey.com and Erin Dowd perform the choreography, set to chart-topping love ballad “Stay” by Rihanna. The 50’s style clothing and black and white vibe give a radiant twist to the explosive movement backed up by an upbeat radio mix of the usually slow song. This video instantly put a smile on my face as I saw the two of them bounce off of each other through their moves. A couple’s dance fit the theme perfectly, seeing as these two lit up the screen with the chemistry and attraction they portrayed in each of their steps. The video tells a story of two young lovers, the male role desperately looking for another shot at love with his female antagonist. Jerzey and Dowd’s choreography overall wowed and inspired me not only to venture into the possibility of dancing with a partner, but also incorporating different dance styles together to form something spectacular.

The last video is one I actually found just around a year ago, exactly on Valentine’s Day. I have a soft spot for boys who can dance, and Fonzie Murff does it for me with this one. This snippet of choreography derived from one of the cutest songs ever, Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran, and is sure to melt your heart. Being a girl, it’s absolutely adorable to see how I guy portrays love. Fonzie Murff expressed his feelings for the special girl in his life through this interpretive dance piece. For such a slow-paced song, Murff’s movement was interesting to watch, as it seemed to perfectly match up with the beat of Ed Sheeran’s soft voice. The skit type introduction mixed with his smooth dance moves showed that this boy has his eyes set on love. Swift transitions and dance moves that shaped the sweet lyrics of this song most definitely grabbed my attention. Fonzie Murff’s dancing has inspired me to put more emotion into my dancing, and really feel not only the music, but also the attachment I feel behind it. One things for sure, If a guy can’t necessarily express his feelings with his words, I sure would be satisfied with seeing him bring them to life through such a beautiful display of talent.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Enjoy the day, filling it with the things and people you love. (And a special thanks to everyone for reading my first post, I look forward to posting many more for you all!)

Much love,
Taylor
