Non-Medication Treatments for Depression
As always we here at Dream on Youth are not Medical Professionals and the information presented here is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Please discuss any decisions about treatment or diagnosis with your Doctor, or mental health professional.
Last week we discussed a few different classes of depression medication. This week we will examine some Non-Medication treatments for depression. These treatments have been shown to be safe and effective but do tend to work better when used in tandem with traditional medication.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A form of therapy that states psychological problems stem from unhealthy thought patterns, poor emotional coping strategies, and learned unhealthy behaviors. CBT aims to change these maladaptive behavoirs and thoughts by addressing them at the root and comparing them to hard facts.
Exercise: Regular exorcise has been shown to dramatically improve Depression symptoms and can be as simple as taking a short walk after dinner.
Yoga: A gentle form of stretching that encourages relaxation and mindfulness. Yoga has been shown to reduce symptoms of mild depression.
That’s all I have for you today. If you feel like any of the above treatments are right for you please talk to your mental health professional about adding them to your treatment regimen. If I missed your favorite non medication way ot manage your depression please leave it in a comment below. Until next time.
